Ronald McDonald House Houston offers a home away from home providing care, compassion and hope to families with seriously ill children being treated in Texas Medical Center member institutions. This organization does very important work. If you talk to just one family helped by Ronald McDonald House, you know their services are invaluable. This organization helps many families at the same time, though, and they are expanding their Holcombe House facilities to help even more!
Holcombe House is a home away from home for families whose seriously ill children are being treated at a Texas Medical Center member institution. The House has 50 private bedrooms equipped with two queen size beds and a full bath. In addition, dedicated volunteers provide frequent meals and family activities for residents of the House. The House also has a Houston Independent School District school room for patients and school bus transportation for siblings to area public schools. Additionally, families staying at Holcombe House are provided scheduled weekday van service to Texas Medical Center hospitals and a near-by grocery store.
Ronald McDonald House has a huge expansion and renovation project underway. Our partner, WS Bellows Construction, is working hard to complete Phase I of this massive project. Phase I will include building a two-story tower containing 20 bedrooms, which will increase Holcombe House’s capacity by 40 percent. Then, the new tower will connect to the existing facility through skywalks. During construction of phase I, 46 existing bedrooms will remain operational, and upgrades will be made to all critical infrastructure within the facility, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
WS Bellows Construction and EyeSite Surveillance are happy to be working together to keep this construction site safe and theft-free! WS Bellows will complete Phase I this fall.
Phase II promises more service for families hurting and struggling with a sick child, including the following:
Phase III will include renovation of all 50 existing bedrooms and bathrooms to meet current ADA requirements. Also, it will maximize bedroom storage space and improve ease of mobility throughout room.
We believe in this worthy project, and you can help, too. Ronald McDonald House has raised so much money for this project, but they need more help. Any size donation helps in the Behind Every Door Campaign. You can donate directly on the website here.
We get excited about all of our projects, but when one will help so many people, we are over the moon. Thank you, Ronald McDonald House Houston and WS Bellows Construction for the opportunity to work on such an important project.
